Follow the steps if you try to connect your camera directly to your Wi-Fi router:


1. Connectivity requirements

To install and use your Arlo system, you must have a high-speed internet connection and meet the minimum operated system required to use the Arlo Secure app or web portal. Check your upload (https://www.speedtest.net/) to be sure that it meets the product connectivity requirements.

2. Camera battery

If your Arlo device uses a battery, make sure the battery is sufficiently charged (and properly inserted, if it is removable). If you are using a wired device, make sure that the electrical outlet your device is plugged in to is receiving power.


3. Ensure that you are selecting the correct camera model to install

The first installation step is choosing the model of your camera. If you are not sure which model you have, you can check it on the box or on the label inside the camera (VMC… or VML…).


4. Connecting the device to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network

Make sure you are connecting your Arlo device to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and not a 5 GHz one. If you are connecting your Arlo device to a mesh network system and your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are using the same SSID (network name), try to disable or rename the 5 GHz network. We recommend connecting your Arlo camera to the main router.

5. Connecting your phone or mobile device to the same 2.4 GHz network to which the camera is connected

Check the connection settings on your mobile device to be sure that it’s only using the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. If your mobile data (LTE) is on, deactivate it.

6. Check the Wi-Fi network SSID (network name) and password.

If the app asks you to manually type the network name and password, check them carefully in the router settings, paying particular attention to every special sign such as ‘!’, capital letters, and numbers.


7. Signal range of your router

Ensure that your mobile device and Arlo camera are within the Wi-Fi signal range of your router. During setup, we recommend placing your camera within 3-4.5 meters of your router. If possible, move any devices connected to the same network to another place to avoid possible Wi-Fi interference. After the camera is set up and connected, you can move the camera anywhere within range of your Wi-Fi router.

8. Wi-Fi security protocol

Please note that Arlo devices support only the Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (2WPA2) security protocol. WEP and WPA security protocols are not supported due to known security vulnerabilities. You can verify that in your router’s settings.


9. Camera LED behavior and QR code scan

Please observe the camera LED during the installation process and make sure it blinks blue for the entirety of the connection process. If you are asked to scan the QR code, ensure that you hear a chime noise from the camera to continue the onboarding process.

10. Camera factory reset

If you have checked and verified all of the above, please perform a factory reset of your Arlo camera: How to factory reset Arlo devices?
