How do I connect my Arlo device directly to my WiFi router if the camera is currently connected to a SmartHub or base station?
Follow these instructions if your Arlo camera is currently set up and connected to a VMB5000, VMB4540, VMB4500, or VMB4000 SmartHub or base station, and you want to connect the camera or doorbell directly to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network.

Before you begin:
- You must have an arlo camera that can directly connect to a WiFi router.
- Your mobile device must be connected to your 2.4 GHz WiFi network, and you must connect your Arlo camera to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi network. For more information, visit How do I connect my mobile device to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network to set up my Arlo camera?.
- To avoid losing your three-month Arlo Smart trial, make sure that you add your Arlo camera to the account that it was originally connected to.
- When your Arlo camera is not connected to an Arlo SmartHub or base station, you can’t store Arlo recordings to a local storage device.
- When your Arlo Video Doorbell is not connected to an Arlo SmartHub or base station, the Arlo Chime can only be configured to play a melody or tone when motion is detected by the Arlo Video Doorbell, but it cannot be triggered by a doorbell press event.
To connect your Arlo camera to your 2.4GHz WiFi Router:
To switch your Arlo camera from an Arlo SmartHub or base station connection to a direct-to-WiFi connection, you must remove the Arlo camera from your account and re-onboard it. Exact steps are provided below.
- Launch the Arlo app on iOS or Android.
- Tap or click Settings > My Devices.
- Select your Arlo camera.
Alternatively, tap or click the Settings icon for your Arlo camera in the Devices screen. - Scroll to the bottom of the Device Settings screen, and tap or click Remove Device.
Your device is reset and removed from your account.

- If Arlo detects a SmartHub or base station, tap or click Connect without SmartHub or Connect without a Base Station.
